Ingredients
2 cups All-purpose flour
2 tablespoons Granulated sugar
2 teaspoons Baking powder
1/4 teaspoon Salt
1/2 cup Milk
1 large Egg
1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
Vegetable oil for frying
Powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt
- In another bowl, combine the milk, egg, and vanilla extract. Gradually mix the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients until the dough comes together
- Lightly flour a clean surface and knead the dough for about 1-2 minutes until it's smooth and slightly sticky. Wrap it in plastic wrap and let it rest for 30 minutes
- In a deep pot or fryer, heat vegetable oil to 375°F (190°C). Make sure there's enough oil to submerge the dough pieces
- On a floured surface, roll out the rested dough to about 1/4-inch thick. Cut into 2-inch squares or rectangles
- Carefully drop a few pieces of dough into the hot oil, frying in batches. Cook for 2-3 minutes on each side until they turn golden brow
- Remove the fried beignets and let them drain on paper towels. While still warm, dust generously with powdered sugar
- Enjoy warm, accompanied by your favorite dipping sauce or drink!
Notes
Ensure the oil temperature is right; too hot will burn the beignets, while too cool will make them greasy.
For an extra fluffy texture, don’t over-knead the dough. Just bring it together gently.
Store leftover beignets in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
To reheat, place them in a 350°F (175°C) oven for about 5-10 minutes until warmed through and crispy again.
