Ingredients
2 cups Fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
1/4 cup Granulated sugar
2 tablespoons All-purpose flour
1 sheet Store-bought puff pastry, thawed
4 oz Cream cheese, softened
1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
1 Egg yolk
1 tablespoon Milk
1/2 cup Powdered sugar (for icing)
1–2 tablespoons Heavy cream or milk (for icing)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper
- In a bowl, mix the sliced strawberries with granulated sugar and flour. Let it sit for about 10 minutes to release the juices
- In another bowl, beat the softened cream cheese with vanilla extract and egg yolk until it becomes creamy and smooth
- Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface and cut it into rectangles, approximately 4×6 inches each
- Place a tablespoon of the cream cheese mixture in the center of each pastry rectangle, and top with a spoonful of the strawberry mixture
- Fold the edges of the pastry over the filling, creating a pocket, and pinch to seal them. You can also create a crisscross pattern on top for decoratio
- Mix the milk with the remaining egg yolk and brush the mixture over the pastries for a golden finish
- Bake the pastries for 18-20 minutes until golden brown and puffed
- While the danishes cool, mix powdered sugar with a little heavy cream or milk to create a glaze
- Drizzle the glaze over the cooled pastries before serving
Notes
Don't overfill the pastries; too much filling can lead to messy baking.
Ensure the puff pastry stays cool until baking for better flakiness.
If using frozen strawberries, thaw and drain them thoroughly before use to avoid sogginess.
